SEOUL, June 16 (Yonhap) — The Foreign Ministry said Thursday it is working to establish a new office for “science and technology diplomacy” to more proactively deal with questions in these areas and the challenges facing South Korea.
The ministry has a department that handles relevant cases, but its new head, Park Jin, has openly talked about the need to establish an office with a larger staff and more resources. The minister was speaking to a group of South Korean correspondents in Washington DC during his trip there earlier this week.
Preparations are already underway and there will be inter-agency consultations, according to ministry spokesperson Choi Young-sam.
Once launched, the office will be responsible for focusing on diplomacy related to the science, technology and cybersecurity sectors.
