Several entities of the Douaisis and Valenciennes Lions Club have officially handed over a new generation electronic cane to the Low Vision Regional Center, linked and located within the Somain ophthalmic clinic.
It was in the presence of the medical team, including Mrs. Demessines, director of the Ophthalmic Institute, and Claire Descamps, locomotion instructor, that Bernard Deroo, president of the Lions Beffroi de Douai, accompanied by several colleagues from Douaisis and Valenciennes , officially handed over this tool of the future.
Sounds and vibrations
A visually impaired user benefiting from this precious invention, invited for the occasion, came to testify to praise the qualities of the instrument while specifying that it will undoubtedly be even more precious for the blind, more sensitive to the messages than the cane transmits to the person concerned, either by sound messages or by vibrations emitted in the handle.
A valuable tool for the low vision service. Indeed, nationally, nearly 90% of patients with blindness still have to travel without being able to benefit from the assistance of a guide dog.
