Saint-Senier-de-Beuvron bends billionaire Elon Musk and his Starlink project

It’s a bit like the story of David against Goliath! After more than a year of battle, the elected officials and the 368 inhabitants of the village of Saint-Senier-de-Beuvron succeeded in preventing the installation of satellite antennas, wanted by the American giant Space X of Elon Musk.

Elon Musk’s company gives up and goes discreetly, on tiptoe, without even warning the main stakeholders.

It is through his network that François Dufour, the former EELV regional councilor, learns the news that a whole village is hoping so much, without believing it too much.

“I was at a meeting when I received a message from a friend. She told me that ARCEP* had just published a decision repealing the one taken in 2020, authorizing the American company to use radio frequencies. clear, Starlink is throwing in the towel.”

It’s written in black and white on this document. Elon Musk’s company, second fortune in the world, withdraws from the South Channel, by a simple email : “ Having regard to the electronic request from the company STARLINK FRANCE SARL, received on January 4, 2022 (…) Decision No. 2020-1452 dated December 1, 2020 shall be repealed as of the date of this decision.”

First, they mobilized to make people talk about them, even posing in front of the Paris Match photographer. Enough to intimidate Starlink engineers?

Not frankly. Above all, they asked the right questions. François Dufour, a former peasant who has become a specialist in electromagnetic waves, knows a thing or two about arm wrestling, facing the giants. And then Mr. Mayor, Benoît Hamard,electrician-plumber-heating engineer, looked into the file. Whole; they have shaken up the strategy, thinking across the Atlantic.

At no time did they give us feedback that we absolutely wanted to have in our possession. So we pushed the project back asking for more and more information and we never got a response.

This field will still grow alfalfa and not the nine 2.86 m high antennas, imagined by SpaceX, via its company Starlink.

Let’s resume. SpaceX is owned by Elon Musk, whose fortune is estimated at $277 billion, according to our colleagues from Le Monde. The company specializes in the space conquest to the Moon and Mars.

At the same time, the giant develops the Starlink program. It is a constellation of satellites allowing access to the Internet by satellite, to provide a high-speed connection in areas poorly served by fiber or even ADSL. And for this, the company must implement terrestrial relays. Hence the nine branches in the South Channel.

These giants, who seek the speed of information and money, have feet of clay. From the moment we mobilize, non-violence, dialogue, questions, I think it must be embarrassing, right up to the top. The state really needs to realize that this can’t go on any longer.
