Okta integrates Proofpoint’s CASB technology to protect the 7,000 applications it secures –

To protect more than 7,000 cloud applications, whose access is secured by Okta Identity Cloud, Okta uses Proofpoint’s Cloud App Security Broker (CASB). The integration will allow customers to detect and block suspicious connections. Proofpoint’s CASB solution now provides detection and remediation of suspicious logins in cloud applications federated by three leading authentication solution providers: Microsoft Active Directory, Okta and Google, covering the majority of enterprise applications.

According to a study by the Ponemon Institute, companies lose an average of $6.2 million per year due to compromised cloud accounts, or about 3.5% of their revenue. Respondents also reported an average of 64 breaches per year, 30% of which exposed sensitive data. And the situation appears to be getting worse, with 50% of these organizations saying the volume or frequency of breaches has increased over the past 12 months.

The Proofpoint CASB solution provides granular visibility into users and data by providing a view focused on people, cloud access and processing of sensitive data. The solution identifies and protects data in the cloud that is at risk, due to abusive permissions and unauthorized data sharing. For example, when CASB detects a compromised cloud account, it can alert and remediate suspicious activity such as data exfiltration or manipulation. Additionally, Proofpoint CASB integrates with Proofpoint’s Enterprise DLP solution for consistent policy enforcement across multiple tiers.

In addition to detection, the solution helps detect cloud account compromise and automates response with contextual alerts. Finally, CASB uses its own anti-malware and sandboxing tools for malware protection.
