News hardware Elon Musk furious with some SpaceX employees
Elon Musk is in particularly good shape at the moment, and is multiplying shock statements and controversial decisions. SpaceX employees, who fear that their CEO’s inappropriate attitude will discredit all the company’s work, have expressed their dissatisfaction in an open letter. In response, the billionaire kindly asked them to take the door.
An open letter written by SpaceX collaborators
This June 16, The Verge reported that SpaceX employees, the famous company specializing in astronautics founded in 2002 by Elon Musk, internally circulated a letter addressed to company president Gwynne Shotwell.
The content of this letter reports the amazement, even the consternation of SpaceX employees in the face of the outrageous attitude of their founder. Employees from all walks of life on the spectrum of gender, ethnicity, age and level of responsibility » participated in the drafting of this letter, which was shared with more than 2,600 employees on the internal chat on Microsoft Teams.
“Elon’s public behavior has been a frequent source of distraction and embarrassment for us, especially over the past few weeks. As our CEO, and most important spokesperson, Elon is seen as the face of SpaceX — every tweet he posts is, de facto, a public statement by the company. It is imperative to clarify with our teams and those who would like to join them that his remarks do not reflect our work, our mission, or our values,” say SpaceX collaborators in their letter to Gwynne Shotwell.
In concrete terms, employees expect Space X to ” speak out publicly and condemn Elon’s toxic attitude on Twitter », and to apply to its own leadership the alleged policy no asshole – which politeness requires us to translate here as “reprimanding or even dismissing people causing harm to the company” – which she claims to carry out on a daily basis.
Elon Musk at the heart of a series of controversies
It must be recognized thatElon Musk has indeed been getting noticed lately – and not in the best way. In April, he paid his favorite social network, Twitter, for a crazy sum, arousing the mistrust of the employees of the blue bird. He did not really reassure them on June 17, after having met them, when he declared that he did not close the door to a few layoffs once the takeover is complete.
Earlier this month, he claimed in an internal email that Tesla employees not working ” at least 40 hours per week ” – that is ” less than what is asked of employees at the factory – were to be banned from telecommuting. In the process, he declared to have a “ really bad feeling » regarding the economic context, requiring reduce Tesla’s payroll by at least 10%.
Without forgetting an even more controversial case, revealed last May, according to which SpaceX would have paid 250,000 dollars to buy the silence of a flight attendant, that Elon Musk allegedly sexually assaulted. An accusation that Elon Musk hastened to refute in one of his famous well-felt tweets, but which scandalizes SpaceX employees.
And, for the record, those wild accusations are utterly untrue

Employees fired on the spot
Elon Musk’s response to the open letter from his employees was quick. According to New York Times, several of the employees who drafted the letter were fired on the spot yesterday afternoon, according to an email sent by President Gwynne Shotwell. Quoted in The Vergethis e-mail states:
“(SpaceX) has terminated the contracts of several employees involved (in writing the letter). This letter (a) made employees feel intimidated, attacked, or angry because (they were) pressured to sign something that did not reflect their opinion. We have too much urgent work to do to allow us to tolerate this kind of large-scale activism. »
Suffice to say that it does not seem that the grievances of the employees have been heard, quite the contrary, and that the position of SpaceX is rather of the order of business as usual. Publicly, neither SpaceX nor Elon Musk have spoken on the subject.
As for SpaceX employees who have been dismissed, or sentenced to be in the coming days, it remains to wish them to find a position in a company with more virtuous values.
